February - April 2018

February

  • Someone asked you what was wrong with your eye (because it looked bruised). You said, "I was born..." It kind of broke my heart a little bit but I see you wanting to tell people about your eye and that's good, too.
  • After going potty, you exclaimed, "Mom, my poop looks like an onion!"
Enjoying a Yogurt Jungle reward after filling up another potty chart. Getting closer to saying goodbye to pull ups!
I love this picture of you. You are adorable.
Dad got us both some flowers for Valentine's Day and he got your this pretty necklace, which you love. You have a pretty great dad. He calls you "Sweet Bean."
Sweet little helpers. The babies were hungry so you and Josh fed them while I made dinner.
March
  • On March 8th, you had your fifth eye surgery. Here is what I shared about it on social media: "Surgery went well. Her doctor tightened the bottom muscles of her small eye with the hope that it will help bring her eye down so it will look straight forward instead of rolling up. During her last surgery, he tried loosening the top muscles to accomplish the same goal but it didn't work. We're hoping for success this time but it will be a couple of weeks before we'll know. She is recovering now. Her eye hurts, her nose itches from the anesthesia, and her tummy feels a little sick but she's doing great. Thank you for the thoughts and prayers. ♥️ #eleanorkate #wecandohardthings

April
  • Every time the babies cry, you sing, "I Am a Child of God" to them. It's so sweet.
  • You only pee in your pull up now and go poop in the potty. You're making great progress!
A post-baseball game treat at Yogurt Jungle, thanks to you filling up another potty chart. Way to go!

December 2017

Dear Norah,

A few things of note this month:

  • You call Nathan "Nath" or "Nathy" most of the time instead of Nathan.
  • After I went to the bathroom, you said, "Good job Mom! You went poop! You get a treat!"
  • While making rice crispy snow men, I said, "We need 1/4 C of butter." You said, "Okay Mom, I've got this."
  • While saying a prayer at dinner, you said, "Please bless the Holy Ghost..." After the prayer, you said, "Mom! I blessed the Holy Ghost!"
Christmas was a whirlwind this year for me. It came and went to so quickly, I could hardly keep up. I think you loved it though.

November 2017

Dear Eleanor,

You seem like such a "big kid" to me since your brothers were born. You want to do everything your older brothers do and won't be left behind. You are kind of a "Tom Boy" in that you're always playing in the backyard, often without shoes (I try so hard but you just take them off), in the dirt, climbing on things, riding your scooter like a pro, etc. But you also like pretty shoes and dresses, having me paint your toenails, and you snuck into my makeup a couple of months ago.

Lately:

  • You say, "Ya, I know."
  • You asked me, "Where are Joshua and Oliver? Where are those buddies?" It was pretty cute.
  • You were wearing a shirt with a pig on it. You looked down and said, "What is this piggy shirt all about?"
  • Sometimes when I check the mail, I let the boys run home from the mailbox (about half a block away) while I follow them in the Tahoe. You always want to do this too but I don't feel that it's safe yet. Recently I told you, "You can run home from the mailbox when you're older." About 30 seconds later you said, "I'm older now."
  • You do not like ice in your water at all.
  • You love peanut butter sandwiches.
  • Sometimes when Josh calls you Eleanor or Norah, you get upset and say, "I'm not Eleanor, I'm Kate!"
  • You have figured out how to take your contact out by yourself (which baffles us because it takes your dad and me 1/2 hour to and hour to get it out, working together, and it's very traumatic for you) and now you won't leave it in. This is very disheartening, as you need it to focus and if your brain stops using that eye, you will lose any vision you may have. It's a lot of pressure and I worry about it a lot. We have gone through about seven contacts in the past couple of months (they were $100 each, recently discounted to $75 due to you losing them so often and just last week I called to order two more and they were willing to go down to $50 / contact, which we're very grateful for). As of now, I put the contact in your eye and play the "dog" game you love with you to keep you engaged for about an hour. (You pretend you're a dog and I throw a ball, which you "fetch" on your hands and knees and bring back to me in your mouth. Sometimes you have me be the dog.) Sometimes you'll engage if I sing to you or spin you in circles. I mostly save those for while we're patching, and bribe you to do that with treats as well. You will only patch for 30 mins max but it's something. We're not giving up on your potential vision.
  • You love your Uncle Ty. He was just here for Thanksgiving. As I was tucking you into bed on Thanksgiving night, you said, "Mom, I just really love Uncle Ty." (He told me he loves all of his nieces and nephews but you're his favorite. You guys have a special bond. He also told me on Thanksgiving that he thinks you're so smart.)

Thanksgiving 2017

You say the cutest things and you're such a fun girl. I honestly think you're already three years old all the time because you're smart, very verbal (you communicate so well) and you're tall for your age (almost as tall as Josh).

We love you Norah!

Meeting your brothers

Dear Oliver,

On July 31, 2017 we welcomed your brothers, Nathan and Zachary into our family. It was too late that night for Grandma Utah to bring you guys up to meet them but you were able to see them the next morning. It was so fun to see you, Josh and Norah see Nathan and Zachary for the first time.

Right before delivering your brothers.
Nathan (Baby A) was born first at 7:14 pm.

Zachary (Baby B) was born twelve minutes later, at 7:26 pm.

I love this picture of dad holding the babies.

Zachary

I love this picture of you and Josh studying the babies.

This one is so precious of you and Zachary.

I know you're going to be a wonderful big sister to these babies! You are a natural nurturer and such a sweet girl.

Two-year photo shoot

While Grandma Utah was in town, I brought her with us to do your two-year photo shoot. I love how these turned out. You are such a beautiful little girl. I just adore you.

This is one of my favorites. I love your happy, natural smile, the beautiful sun in your hair and your curls.

My mom and dad bought this dress in Spain for me while visiting my dad's mission after they got married. I love that my mom saved it so you can wear it now. I love the happy expression on your face here.

Your version of the I love you sign.

I love this one of you and Grandma Utah watching the ducks.

"Norah, how old are you?" "Two!"

I love you sweet girl! Happy birthday! Love, Mom

Your 2nd Birthday

For your birthday, we had a little party at our house. Guests included Grandma Utah, Grandma and Grandpa Schultz, Aunt Amalie and your cousin Addie, our friends the Whitneys (their daughter, Melanie is your age) and our little family. You love cats right now so your cake (made by Nana Dot's stepmom, Susan), was a cute cat cake. Grandma Schultz gave you your cute pink birthday dress. You seemed to have fun at your party. Your birthday from Mom and Dad was two real cats (which you got the next day and LOVE). We can't believe you're already two! We love you Norah!
